Amazing Ants Part 3

This is the last blog post about the ants!

Cantaloupe in the ant pile!
I put the last ingredients in the ant piles and videoed the results!

Watch this video to see the secret ingredient!

If you ever want to feed ants and make them happy I would suggest cantaloupe or marshmallows! I encourage you to test your ant piles and see what your ants like!

Stay tuned for my next post with pictures from Seattle!

Amazing Ants Part 2

Watch this video for an important message.

Here are some facts that I learned from my research:

  • They have wings when they are born and they fall off when they get older.
  • The ants in my video are Texas Carpenter Ants.
  • They do not have piles, instead they have tunnels underground.
  •  I do think they like salt cause they loved the salty pretzels
  • They are one of the biggest ants in the world
  • They most of the time build nest in wood but not always
  • 14 species of the ants destroy wood and trees
  • They have a circle of hair on their belly
I discovered that the ants with wings are not queens, they are baby ants. When we looked at the ants a week later their wings were not on them.

Here is a video of the second ant tunnel. My mom asked me some questions during this video!

Here is the third ant tunnel when I figured out that the ants are hatched with wings!

My next post will be about a surprise food we feed the ants!

Awesome Ants

I found some cool ant piles in my yard and I started feeding them
food!the first thing I fed them were Froot Loops and they ate them very slowly! After about a weak all of the Froot Loops were eaten:)
The reason why I kept feeding them is I wanted to see how they  would react to different kinds of food!here is a picture of the ants and Froot loops!
The ants liked the purple and green ones so much they were attacking them!!

The next I decided to put some watermelon out on the ant piles. When I came back an hour later I saw a deer eating the watermelon! I thought I needed to try to give them something the deer would not like.
Ant pile number 2:)

Item number 3 tomatoes!! They had gone bad and they were brown on the bottom so the deer would not eat them hopefully! We put the tomatoes at the ant piles and in the morning we checked them and they were eaten a little bit.  3 days later we checked them:
Ant pile #1- Had done nothing since the last day we checked.
Ant pile #2- Had eaten the whole bottom off.
Ant pile #3- Had all of theirs gone.
Ant pile #4- They were trying to get the tomato through their hole.

The ants with the tomatoes!

Check back again soon for information on ant pile 1,2,3, & 4!!
